Meta Expands AI Translation for Reels: Hindi and Portuguese Join Instagram and Facebook’s Multilingual Push

Meta’s latest update brings AI voice and caption translation to Reels in Hindi and Portuguese, boosting accessibility, creator reach, and cross-language engagement on Instagram and Facebook.

Meta has expanded its AI-powered translation technology to include Hindi and Portuguese for Reels on Instagram and Facebook, empowering creators and audiences to connect seamlessly across languages. This expansion builds on the feature’s initial rollout in August 2025, which introduced English and Spanish translation, marking another milestone in Meta’s mission to make Reels more inclusive, multilingual, and AI-driven.

AI Voice Translation with Lip-Sync for Reels
The AI translation feature automatically converts a creator’s voice and captions into selected languages, complete with real-time lip-syncing for a natural viewing experience. With Hindi and Portuguese support, Meta strengthens its footprint in India and Brazil — two of the largest creator markets globally — while reinforcing its focus on AI innovation in content creation.

“We believe there are amazing creators who have audiences that don’t necessarily speak the same language. By helping creators reach viewers across cultural and linguistic barriers, we’re enabling greater connection and growth on our platforms,” said Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram.

Creators can activate the feature by selecting “Translate your voice with Meta AI” before publishing a Reel, preview the translated version, and fine-tune dubbing and lip-syncing for accuracy. Viewers, on the other hand, can enjoy automatic translations in their preferred language, making global content discovery easier and more personalized.

AI Translation for Text, Captions, and Dubbing
Meta is also rolling out advanced AI translation tools across Instagram and Facebook Reels, including:

  • Text and Caption Translation: A new “Translate Text on Reels” option to convert stickers, subtitles, and captions—ideal for viewers watching without sound.
  • Voice Preservation Technology: Maintains the creator’s original tone and emotion during dubbing.
  • Enhanced Lip-Sync Accuracy: Delivers more natural and expressive translated Reels.

Meta’s move comes as YouTube upgrades its own AI auto-dubbing system, now supporting 20+ languages with improved lip-sync precision. The competition underscores how AI translation tools are rapidly reshaping the creator economy, making multilingual video content more accessible than ever.
