Meta Acquires Limitless

With the acquisition, Meta to Boost AI Wearable Innovation, Expand “Personal Superintelligence” Strategy.

Meta has announced the acquisition of Limitless, a rising AI wearables startup best known for its Pendant AI device, signalling a major leap in Meta’s push to develop next-generation AI-powered wearable technology. The deal underscores Meta’s broader vision of integrating personal superintelligence into everyday hardware, strengthening its competitive position in the rapidly growing AI wearables market.

Limitless, a five-year-old startup based in Denver, Colorado, gained industry attention with its discreet, clip-on wearable pendant capable of recording real-time conversations, transcribing discussions, and generating AI-powered summaries. The device was designed as a personal productivity tool, offering users a searchable digital memory to analyse meetings, manage workflows, and access contextual insights through generative AI.

While financial terms of the acquisition remain undisclosed, Limitless CEO Dan Siroker confirmed the news through a company blog post, highlighting alignment with Meta’s mission to deliver AI-enabled wearables for consumers worldwide. Siroker noted that Meta’s ambition to bring “personal superintelligence to everyone” made the partnership a natural fit for accelerating future innovation.

As part of the acquisition, Limitless will discontinue sales of its hardware—including the popular Pendant device. Existing customers will receive at least one year of continued support and will be upgraded to a free Unlimited Plan, eliminating subscription costs. Meanwhile, non-hardware products such as Rewind, the company’s desktop recording software, will be gradually retired.

Industry analysts view the acquisition as a strategic acqui-hire, aimed at strengthening Meta’s Reality Labs division and boosting R&D for future AI-focused hardware. The Limitless engineering team and intellectual property are expected to integrate directly into Meta’s wearable ecosystem, potentially enhancing devices such as Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which have already demonstrated strong market traction thanks to their voice-first, context-aware AI capabilities.

Meta’s shift toward AI-driven personal devices follows its multi-billion-dollar investment into the metaverse, marking a notable pivot toward more practical, consumer-ready AI hardware. The Limitless acquisition represents a decisive step toward building a family of intelligent, always-on wearable assistants, reflecting a growing trend among major tech companies racing to dominate the wearable AI and ambient computing landscape.

As the competition intensifies, Meta is positioning itself at the forefront of the next era of ambient AI, smart wearables, and on-body computing, leveraging Limitless’s innovation to advance its vision of deeply integrated, personalised AI technology.
