Axis Communications has announced the upcoming launch of two new AI-powered security radars designed to enhance large-area surveillance, improve detection accuracy, and strengthen perimeter protection in a variety of outdoor environments. These next-generation devices feature multi-layered detection capabilities, offering either a 180° or 270° horizontal field of coverage, and deliver reliable performance 24/7 in all weather and lighting conditions.
The new AXIS D2122-VE Radar provides a broad 180-degree detection range and is ideal for installation along fence lines, walls, industrial facilities, critical infrastructure sites, and secured perimeters. It is capable of identifying human movement at distances of up to 140 meters and monitoring areas measuring up to 20,000 square meters. Meanwhile, the AXIS D2123-VE Radar extends coverage further with a 270-degree field of detection, enabling effective monitoring of spaces up to 30,000 square meters when mounted on poles or building corners. Both models utilize box-shaped detection zones, simplifying coverage planning and enabling more precise system design.
A key advantage of the new radars is their deep integration with selected Axis PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, enabling radar-video fusion. By combining radar analytics with video-based AI classification, the system significantly reduces false alarms and ensures accurate visual verification. Operators can automatically track moving targets and respond more effectively using real-time intelligence delivered through one unified interface. Because the radar and camera operate through edge-to-edge pairing, only one IP address and one VMS license are required, making deployment more efficient and cost-effective.
This integrated approach supports advanced features such as double-knock verification, where both radar and video analytics must confirm movement before an alert is triggered. This ensures stronger threat filtering, reduces unnecessary notifications, and enhances decision-making for security teams, monitoring centers, and critical infrastructure operators.
The new radars also offer excellent flexibility and compatibility with other Axis ecosystem devices, including panoramic cameras, strobe lighting solutions, and audio deterrent systems, allowing organizations to build customized layered security configurations. Low power consumption and Power over Ethernet (PoE) support make the devices suitable for mobile surveillance units, temporary installations, and remote or off-grid sites where access to electricity may be limited.
With the introduction of these advanced radars, Axis Communications continues to expand its portfolio of intelligent security solutions, helping organizations achieve more accurate detection, faster response, and greater situational awareness across vast outdoor environments.
