Cadence has unveiled the ChipStack AI Super Agent, the world’s first agentic AI-powered workflow designed to autonomously create and verify semiconductor designs from high-level specifications. The breakthrough solution marks a major advancement in AI-driven chip design, electronic design automation (EDA), and silicon verification.
The ChipStack AI Super Agent delivers up to 10X productivity gains across critical front-end design tasks, including RTL coding, testbench generation, test plan creation, regression orchestration, debugging, and automated issue resolution.

Agentic AI for Semiconductor Engineering
Built as part of Cadence’s Intelligent System Design strategy, ChipStack orchestrates multiple virtual AI engineers that autonomously leverage Cadence’s core EDA toolchain. The system integrates:
- Verisium Verification Platform
- Cadence Cerebrus Intelligent Chip Explorer
- JedAI data and AI platform
- Proven optimization AI technologies used in over 1,000 tapeouts

The platform supports both cloud-based and on-premises AI models, including NVIDIA Nemotron models customized with NVIDIA NeMo and cloud-hosted LLMs such as OpenAI GPT, enabling flexible deployment across enterprise environments.
“ChipStack represents a major leap in our AI-for-design strategy. By embedding intelligent agents directly into front-end silicon workflows, we are enabling dramatic productivity gains while allowing engineers to focus on innovation,” said Anirudh Devgan, President and CEO, Cadence.

Addressing Engineering Talent Shortages
With semiconductor complexity rising and experienced engineering talent in short supply, AI-driven automation has become critical. According to Paul Cunningham, SVP and GM of R&D at Cadence, early deployments are scaling rapidly, positioning ChipStack as a transformative tool for modern chip development.
Industry Validation from Leading Chipmakers
- The ChipStack AI Super Agent is currently in early deployment with top semiconductor and systems companies, including Altera, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Tenstorrent.
- Altera reported approximately 10X verification productivity improvements, accelerating functional coverage and design closure.
- Tenstorrent achieved up to 4X faster formal verification during a three-month evaluation.
- NVIDIA highlighted the integration of intelligent reasoning models and accelerated computing to unlock new efficiency levels.
- Qualcomm noted strong early performance enhancements across its evaluation programs.

A New Era of AI-Powered Silicon Development
By combining agentic AI orchestration, accelerated computing, and enterprise-grade verification workflows, Cadence’s ChipStack AI Super Agent moves the industry closer to a true “silicon agent” capable of spanning multiple design disciplines autonomously. As AI becomes foundational to next-generation semiconductor innovation, ChipStack positions Cadence at the forefront of AI-powered chip design automation, intelligent verification, and high-performance computing-driven EDA transformation.
