Government-Backed Cab App, Bharat Taxi Launched in Delhi-NCR

Government-Backed

India’s government-supported ride-hailing platform, Bharat Taxi, has officially launched its cab and bike taxi services in the Delhi-NCR region, offering commuters a new alternative to established players like Ola, Uber, and Rapido. Positioned as a zero-commission, standard-fare taxi app, Bharat Taxi claims to deliver transparent pricing with no surge charges, even during peak hours, bad weather, or high-demand periods.

With its entry into one of India’s busiest urban mobility markets, many users are asking the key question: Is Bharat Taxi actually cheaper than Ola and Uber?

What Is Bharat Taxi and How Is It Different?
According to the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, Bharat Taxi is designed to support fair pricing, driver welfare, and predictable fares. Unlike private ride-hailing apps that rely heavily on surge pricing algorithms, Bharat Taxi follows a standardised fare model and reportedly charges zero commission to drivers, potentially improving earnings for driver-partners.

The platform is gaining traction rapidly:

  • 4 lakh+ registered users
  • 45,000 new users added daily
  • Ranked #9 on Google Play Store
  • Ranked #13 on Apple App Store

These early adoption numbers suggest growing public interest in government-backed mobility platforms.

Bharat Taxi vs Ola vs Uber: Fare Comparison in Delhi-NCR

To evaluate pricing, we compared cab and bike taxi fares for the same route:
Noida Film City to Aerocity, New Delhi (25.2 km)
Bharat Taxi Prices
Bike: ₹191
Non-AC Cab: ₹510
AC Cab: ₹562

Ola Prices
Bike: ₹255
Mini (Non-AC): ₹452
Mini (AC): ₹477
Sedan: ₹504

Uber Prices
Bike: ₹158
Uber Go: ₹409
Uber Premier: ₹409

Based on this real-world price comparison:

  • Uber emerged as the cheapest option across categories
  • Ola followed with mid-range pricing
  • Bharat Taxi was currently the most expensive, despite its no-surge promise

While Bharat Taxi does not yet undercut competitors on price, its predictable fares, no surge pricing, and government backing may appeal to users frustrated by fluctuating costs on private platforms. Since Bharat Taxi has only recently begun operations, pricing may evolve as the platform scales and optimises its fare structure. The service could become more competitive over time, especially as it expands driver availability and route coverage.

As competition in India’s ride-hailing and urban mobility sector intensifies, commuters in Delhi-NCR stand to benefit from more choice, fairer pricing, and improved service standards.
