Huawei Pura 80 Series Launching June 11 with HarmonyOS 5 and Photography-Focused Upgrades

Huawei is set to unveil its new Pura 80 series smartphones on June 11 at 2:30 PM (local time) in China, alongside other smart products. Teasers on Weibo indicate a strong focus on mobile photography, with the series expected to offer cutting-edge imaging capabilities.

The Pura 80 lineup will reportedly include four variants: Standard, Pro, Pro Plus, and Ultra. These devices are likely to be powered by the Kirin 9020 chipset, Huawei’s latest in-house SoC, and will run on the newly upgraded HarmonyOS 5 operating system out of the box. Notably, this version of HarmonyOS is a complete departure from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), although it can still run certain Android apps via a virtual machine.

At a recent event for Huawei’s Maextro S800 smart car, a glimpse of a Pura 80 series device—most likely the Pura 80 Ultra—was spotted, revealing its triangular camera bump, a design element retained from its predecessor. The Ultra model is expected to feature advanced camera hardware, including a 50MP dual-periscope telephoto lens, potentially offering unprecedented zoom and image clarity.

The camera system will also include Huawei’s own SmartSens SC5A0CS 1-inch sensor, known for excellent low-light and detail performance, and a 2MP color temperature sensor to improve color accuracy in various lighting conditions. These features signal Huawei’s intent to position the Pura 80 series as a premium photography-focused smartphone line.

With HarmonyOS 5 providing a more seamless and independent ecosystem, and hardware enhancements aimed at professional-grade imaging, Huawei’s Pura 80 series could mark a major leap forward in the company’s post-Android smartphone strategy. The launch event is expected to showcase both the technical prowess and ecosystem evolution of Huawei’s mobile division.
