Swedish furniture giant Ikea is preparing for its next phase of expansion in India, with a focus on new investments and a move toward profitability, according to Susanne Pulverer, CEO of Ikea India. The company will soon launch online sales in Delhi-NCR and nine other markets, ahead of opening two large-format stores in Gurugram (2026) and Noida (2028).
Following its current presence in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, Ikea plans to open physical stores in Chennai and Pune as part of its broader strategy. While timelines for Chennai and Pune have not been confirmed, Pulverer indicated that both markets will see physical stores “in a couple of years,” with online services already active in Pune.
Once Ikea establishes itself across these six key metros, it will shift focus to expanding with smaller stores and enhancing its omni-channel presence. The brand is also eyeing potential entry into Eastern markets like Kolkata, recognizing its strategic importance for future growth.
Pulverer emphasized that physical retail expansion will complement their growing e-commerce operations, with an aim to drive profitability within the next few years as the India business matures.
