India Sees Fresh COVID-19 Surge

“Considering Over 3,300 Active Cases, 4 Deaths in 24 Hours, the health ministry urges citizens to practice caution, maintain hygiene, and consult healthcare providers in case of symptoms.”

India is witnessing a fresh uptick in COVID-19 infections, with the number of active cases reaching 3,395 as of Saturday, May 31, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The highest concentration of cases is currently in Kerala (1,336), followed by Maharashtra and Delhi. Despite the rise, the government has assured that the severity remains low, with most patients recovering under home isolation.

In the last 24 hours, four COVID-related deaths were reported from Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, 1,435 patients were discharged across the country, indicating ongoing recoveries.

Maharashtra reported 68 new cases on Saturday, bringing its total active cases to 467. Of these, Mumbai accounted for 30 cases, Pune 15, while other infections were logged in Kalyan-Dombivali and Raigad districts.

In response to the situation, the Karnataka Health Department has issued advisories urging the public to stay calm but vigilant. As schools are set to reopen in June, authorities have directed both government and private institutions to implement precautionary measures to protect schoolchildren.

Officials note that there is no immediate cause for alarm, but close monitoring is ongoing. Most cases are reportedly mild, and healthcare systems are prepared to respond if necessary.

Other states reporting notable numbers include West Bengal and Karnataka, which, along with Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi, are currently among the worst-hit. The health ministry continues to urge citizens to practice caution, maintain hygiene, and consult healthcare providers in case of symptoms. While the current variant’s severity appears limited, the government remains on alert, particularly as schools and public activities resume nationwide.
