Meta has officially appointed Connor Hayes as the new head of Threads, the company’s rapidly growing social media platform, according to Axios. Hayes, a Meta veteran with over 14 years of experience, steps into the role as Threads continues its aggressive push to compete with rivals like X (formerly Twitter).
Before his promotion, Hayes served as Meta’s Vice President of Product for Generative AI for more than two years, overseeing advancements in AI-driven tools and features. Throughout his career at Meta and Instagram, he has held multiple key product leadership positions, playing a pivotal role in shaping user experiences across the platforms.
Hayes’ appointment underscores Meta’s commitment to scaling Threads as a core part of its social media ecosystem. Since launching, Threads has seen rapid global adoption, with Meta steadily rolling out new integrations and features to attract creators, brands, and everyday users.
A graduate of Rice University in Houston, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Hayes brings a blend of technical and strategic expertise to the role. His leadership is expected to accelerate Threads’ evolution as Meta aims to capture users seeking alternatives to X and foster a more dynamic, engaging online community.
The move comes amid Meta’s broader strategy to strengthen its social media footprint, leveraging AI innovation, seamless integration with Instagram, and user-focused features to position Threads as a top global conversation hub.
