UP Police Launches AI-Powered Yaksh App to Enable Instant Crime Records and Smarter Policing

Yaksh App

The Uttar Pradesh Police has launched an advanced AI-powered policing app called Yaksh, marking a major step toward digital policing, crime analytics, and real-time criminal identification. The app was unveiled during the two-day Police Manthan event at the police headquarters in Lucknow, reinforcing the state’s push toward technology-driven law enforcement.

The Yaksh app is designed to provide police personnel with instant access to comprehensive criminal records. The platform stores detailed data including names, addresses, photographs, videos, past criminal cases, and voice samples of offenders. With a single click, officers can retrieve a suspect’s full history, significantly reducing response time during investigations and field operations.

A key innovation of the Yaksh app is voice-based criminal identification, introduced for the first time in the state. This feature will help identify suspects even when they change their appearance or use fake identities, making it especially effective against repeat offenders and organised crime networks.

Boosting Beat Policing and Crime Monitoring
The app is expected to significantly strengthen beat policing across Uttar Pradesh. Beat constables and officers will regularly upload information about active, suspicious, and history-sheeter criminals in their assigned areas. Data on crime trends, sensitive locations, and police action will be updated in real time, enabling faster patrolling, better planning, and improved coordination across police units.

Fighting Cybercrime With Data and AI
During the discussions, officials highlighted how AI, data analytics, and digital tracking are enhancing the fight against cybercrime. Platforms like Yaksh are expected to improve inter-agency coordination, helping investigators connect digital evidence and criminal patterns more effectively.

The launch also showcased the Smart SHO Dashboard, which allows station heads to monitor case status, investigation progress, and pending actions on a single platform. This digital oversight is expected to improve efficiency and accountability at police stations.

Focus on Women’s Safety and Digital Justice
Special emphasis was placed on women’s safety, child protection, and human trafficking. Women beat officers are being instructed to engage with local communities, promote helpline numbers, and spread awareness about the Women Power Line for faster complaint registration.

The event also highlighted CCNS 2.0, new criminal codes, and digital systems such as e-FIR, Zero FIR, e-Summons, and e-Evidence, aimed at making policing faster, transparent, and data-driven.

Officials believe that the Yaksh app, combined with these digital initiatives, will transform policing in Uttar Pradesh by ensuring faster response, accurate identification, and accountable law enforcement, with phased implementation and staff training already underway.
