Bengaluru Launches ‘Water on Wheels’ App for Affordable, Clean Tanker Deliveries

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has launched a new app-based water delivery service called ‘Sanchari Cauvery’. The initiative aims to provide clean, BIS-certified drinking water directly to homes in Bengaluru through GPS-tracked tankers.

With the official app ‘Kaverionwheels’ now available on the Google Play Store, residents can easily book water tankers, track deliveries in real time, make online payments, and receive driver details. An OTP-based system ensures secure delivery. The service promises doorstep delivery within 24 hours, even during high-demand periods, with no extra charges. A 24/7 helpline has also been set up for customer support.

At the launch event held at Vidhana Soudha, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the tankers are priced much lower than the rates charged by private suppliers:
4,000 litres: ₹660
5,000 litres: ₹700
6,000 litres: ₹740
12,000 litres: ₹1,290 (all for deliveries within 2 km)
For distances beyond 2 km, an extra fee of ₹50/km (for smaller tankers) and ₹70/km (for the 12,000-litre tanker) will apply.

Shivakumar criticized the private water tanker mafia, which he said controls around 3,000 private borewells and charges up to ₹3,000 per delivery. He emphasized that this new initiative aims to break their monopoly and ensure affordable access to safe water.

BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar said that users will receive SMS and app notifications for every step, ensuring full transparency. He described Sanchari Cauvery as the first initiative to deliver Cauvery water straight to homes.

Alongside the app launch, the government introduced a new scheme called ‘Sarala Cauvery’ to make Cauvery water connections more affordable. For homes up to 600 sq. ft., residents can pay just ₹1,000 upfront, with the rest payable in 12 monthly installments along with water bills. A small 0.15% service fee applies.

For larger homes and apartments (over 600 sq. ft.), 20% of the demand notice amount must be paid upfront, with the remaining 80% spread over 12 months. The connection will be installed after the initial payment.

Manohar also shared that BWSSB has started work on a ₹1,900 crore project near Nelamangala to treat Vrishabhavathi river water, which will then be stored and distributed to rural areas. Additionally, efforts are underway to recharge Bengaluru’s groundwater.

Deputy CM Shivakumar added that the government is working on the Cauvery Stage VI project and is in talks with several banks for funding.
