Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Meta Platforms have entered into a multi-year partnership to deploy up to six gigawatts of AMD artificial intelligence chips to power Meta’s next generation of AI-driven data centers. Announced on February 24, the agreement represents one of the largest disclosed AI infrastructure commitments to date and underscores Meta’s strategy to diversify its semiconductor supply chain as global competition for AI compute intensifies.
Under the agreement, Meta will deploy multiple generations of AMD Instinct GPUs alongside AMD EPYC CPUs. Shipments supporting the first gigawatt of AI compute capacity are expected to begin in the second half of 2026. The systems will be built on AMD’s Helios rack-scale architecture and will incorporate a custom GPU based on the MI450 design, specifically optimized for Meta’s AI workloads.
AMD Chief Executive Dr. Lisa Su described the collaboration as a strategic expansion of the companies’ partnership, aligning product roadmaps across GPUs, CPUs, and rack-scale AI systems to deliver high-performance, energy-efficient infrastructure. The deployment is intended to support Meta’s expanding AI ambitions, including large-scale model training and inference workloads.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that the partnership is a key step in advancing the company’s long-term AI goals, including the development of increasingly powerful AI systems. He noted that the collaboration will help Meta deploy efficient inference compute and further diversify its compute infrastructure.
The agreement also deepens Meta’s adoption of AMD’s EPYC server processors. Meta will serve as a lead customer for AMD’s sixth-generation EPYC processors, code-named “Venice,” as well as a future chip called “Verano,” which will feature workload-specific optimizations. Meta has already deployed millions of EPYC processors and substantial volumes of AMD’s MI300-series AI accelerators across its global infrastructure.
AMD Chief Financial Officer Jean Hu stated that the partnership is expected to drive significant multi-year revenue growth and contribute positively to the company’s non-GAAP earnings per share. As part of the deal, AMD issued Meta a performance-based warrant for up to 160 million shares of common stock, which will vest incrementally as Meta meets deployment milestones, beginning with the first gigawatt and scaling toward the full six-gigawatt target.
