SAP helped Birla Opus Paints to build a Future-Ready, AI-Enabled Digital Paints Enterprise.

SAP has announced the successful completion of a large-scale cloud transformation for Birla Opus Paints, a strategic business of Grasim Industries Ltd. under the Aditya Birla Group. Designed to create a future-ready, agile, and scalable paints enterprise, the transformation equips Birla Opus Paints with an integrated, cloud-driven digital core powering end-to-end operations across manufacturing, supply chain, finance, distribution, procurement, and customer engagement.

At the center of the transformation is SAP S/4HANA Cloud, complemented by SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP), SAP Commerce, SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), SAP Vistex, and SAP Vendor Invoice Management (VIM). Together, these solutions create a unified, real-time digital backbone enabling Birla Opus Paints to operate with greater precision, transparency, and speed. Implemented significantly faster than industry norms, the project showcases the potential of SAP’s cloud strategy for rapid digital transformation at scale.

By adopting a cloud-first architecture, Birla Opus Paints is positioned to achieve its ambitious goal of 3x year-on-year growth, while enhancing responsiveness across its nationwide operations. Building a fully digital enterprise from inception allows the company to leapfrog legacy transformation cycles that typically take decades, placing it among India’s most modern and advanced Industry 4.0-enabled manufacturers.

“Birla Opus Paints represents the new generation of Indian enterprises that are born digital and built for scale. Their rapid transformation reflects the power of SAP’s intelligent cloud solutions in helping organizations run with speed, intelligence, and resilience,” said Kulwant Singh, Vice President, Enterprise Sales, SAP India.

Three Pillars of Birla Opus Paints’ Digital Strategy

  • Customer-Centric Innovation:

A fully digitized value chain, enabled by SAP, delivers real-time visibility and seamless engagement from procurement to production, distribution, and finance.

  • Industry & Societal Impact:

The transformation strengthens India’s paint and coatings ecosystem with improved supply chain reliability, enhanced dealer experience, and product accessibility across 40,000+ dealers, six manufacturing plants, and 150 depots.

  • Differentiated Speed & Scale:

Birla Opus Paints has built a complete, cloud-driven digital enterprise in just two years—an achievement that far outpaces traditional industry timelines.

“We placed the customer at the center of our digital journey. With SAP’s unified cloud suite, we now operate with precision, agility, and confidence—ready to scale 3x year after year,” said Girish Rao, Head – IT, Birla Opus Paints.

The SAP cloud transformation has enabled Birla Opus Paints to achieve unified financial and operational planning for stronger strategic alignment, while gaining real-time visibility to quickly identify and resolve bottlenecks across the value chain. With data-driven insights replacing manual forecasting, the company now operates with greater accuracy and agility. Additionally, procurement, warehouse management, pricing, and accounts payable processes have been significantly accelerated through automation. Powered by a scalable, pay-as-you-grow cloud model, the organization is now equipped to support rapid and sustainable expansion.

With SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP IBP, SAP EWM, SAP Vistex, SAP VIM, and SAP Commerce powering six Industry 4.0 plants, 150 depots, and 40,000+ dealers, Birla Opus Paints is now positioned to drive sustained growth, operational excellence, and continuous innovation across its expanding business landscape.
