Citibank Appoints Kaustubh Kulkarni as Co-Head of Investment Banking for APAC

Citibank has announced the appointment of Kaustubh Kulkarni, former JP Morgan India senior country officer, as Co-Head of Investment Banking for Asia Pacific (APAC). His new role will be effective from December 2025, subject to regulatory approvals, with Singapore as his base location.

In his new position, Kulkarni will oversee investment banking coverage across Japan, North Asia, Australia, and South Asia, working alongside Jan Metzger, Head of Asia Pacific Banking, Capital Markets, and Advisory at Citi.

Kulkarni brings nearly three decades of experience in global banking, capital markets, and M&A advisory. At JP Morgan, he played a pivotal role in large-scale mergers and acquisitions, debt financing, and equity capital market transactions across India and Asia. He started his career with Tata Group and Siemens before joining JP Morgan in 1997.

Academically, he holds a Master of Management Studies (MMS) from IIT Mumbai and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from VJTI, University of Mumbai, highlighting his strong academic and technical foundation.

This move comes at a time when global banks are strengthening their presence in Asia. Alongside Citi’s leadership reshuffle, Bank of America has hired Satish Arcot, another senior JP Morgan banker, to lead its Capital Markets business in India. Similarly, Citi recently brought on Vikram Chavali from Goldman Sachs as Managing Director, Head of Global Asset Managers (GAM) for Japan, North Asia, and Asia South, who will be based in Hong Kong.

Citi’s recent appointments underline its strategy to expand investment banking capabilities in APAC, enhance cross-border M&A advisory, and tap into emerging market opportunities across India, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia.
