Cloudflare Q2 2025 Global Internet Trends: Surge in Cyber Threats as Internet Usage Continues to Soar

Cloudflare has released its Q2 2025 Global Internet Trends and Insights report, highlighting a surge in cyber threats even as global internet activity reached new highs. The report reveals that Cloudflare blocked an average of 190 billion cyber threats daily worldwide during the quarter, marking a 21% year-over-year (YoY) rise. While cyber threat volumes fell 23% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) after a spike earlier this year, global web traffic surged, with Cloudflare processing 5.8 trillion daily internet requests—up 9% QoQ and 40% YoY.

Regionally, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) saw the highest number of daily blocked threats at 62.7 billion, followed by Asia-Pacific (57.4 billion), North America (41.5 billion), and Latin America (19 billion). While all regions experienced a YoY rise in attacks, threat volumes dropped QoQ due to earlier spikes calming.

In Saudi Arabia, overall internet traffic held steady compared to Q1, but cyber threat volumes decreased by 6% QoQ, with 543 million of the 42.6 billion daily content requests blocked as attacks. Application-layer defenses were dominated by Web Application Firewall (92%) rules targeting HTTP anomalies, cross-site scripting (XSS), and directory traversal.

The UAE, however, experienced a different trend. Internet traffic rose 15% QoQ, and cyber threats spiked 17%, with one billion threats blocked daily—primarily from distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Top targeted sectors included retail, BFSI, and consumer services, with DDoS mitigations accounting for 50% of defenses.

Bashar Bashaireh, AVP for the Middle East, Türkiye, and North Africa at Cloudflare, emphasized: “Cloudflare’s Q2 data underscores a dual reality—global internet use is accelerating, but cyber threats are growing in volume and complexity. Our goal is to keep the internet fast, secure, and reliable for all users.”
