Google Releases Maps Power Saving Mode on Pixel 10 Series, Extending Battery Life During Navigation

Google has started rolling out a new Google Maps Power Saving mode for the entire Pixel 10 series, giving users a more efficient, battery-friendly navigation experience during long drives. The feature, part of the latest Pixel Feature Drop, is now available on the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and is turned on by default.

With this update, users can reduce battery drain by switching Maps into a minimal, low-power navigation view. Simply pressing the power button while driving activates the mode, replacing the full Google Maps interface with a simplified layout designed to consume significantly less energy. Google claims that this can extend battery life by up to four hours, depending on display brightness and road conditions — a major advantage for road trips and heavy navigation users.

What Google Maps Power Saving Mode Includes
In Power Saving mode, Google Maps shifts to a clean, black-and-white interface that highlights only essential driving information. The UI removes most visual elements to cut display power usage, including:

  • A minimal map with clear next-turn directions
  • Visible system status bar
  • Basic route details at the bottom
  • No Google Assistant/Gemini shortcuts
  • No floating action buttons, menus, or speed readouts

This mode currently works exclusively for driving navigation and only in portrait orientation, allowing Pixel users to enjoy longer battery life without sacrificing core navigation functionality.

To enable the battery-saving view:

  • Start navigation in Google Maps.
  • Press the power button once to activate Power Saving mode.
  • Press the power button again or tap the screen to return to full navigation.
  • The mode automatically turns off when you reach your destination.

With this update, Google is making the Pixel 10 lineup even more optimized for on-the-go use, offering a smarter, more energy-efficient Maps experience for drivers who rely on their phones for daily commuting and long-distance travel.
