Hyderabad’s Nehru zoo remain operational while it enhances visitors’ experience with new animals, safari upgrade.
In a major boost to Telangana’s wildlife and tourism landscape, Hyderabad is set to welcome a world-class exotic zoological park near Mucherla. Spread across 200 acres, the upcoming facility will feature rare and exotic animals from continents such as Africa, South America, Europe, and Australia.
200-Acre Exotic Zoo Coming to Mucherla Near Future City
The Telangana government has officially allocated 200 acres near the proposed Future City at Mucherla for the new exotic zoo. Developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the project will involve private players in its design, construction, and management. Inspired by the globally acclaimed Singapore Zoo, the new park aims to set new benchmarks in animal care and wildlife conservation.
Contrary to earlier speculation, the Nehru Zoological Park in Bahadurpura will not be relocated. Concerns were raised over a potential move to Shadnagar to make room for a new High Court complex. However, these plans were shelved due to strict guidelines from the Central Zoo Authority and the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.
According to Dr. Sunil S Hiremath, Director of Zoo Parks Telangana, the new facility will be modelled along the lines of the Singapore Zoo and will host animals native to Africa, South America, Europe, and Australia.
Instead, the government has earmarked 100 acres in Premavathipet and Budwel villages of Rajendranagar mandal for the High Court’s construction, ensuring the Nehru Zoo remains untouched. The park will continue operating with an aim to upgrade its facilities and meet international standards.
Initially, there were speculations about relocating the Nehru Zoological Park to Shadnagar to make way for construction of the new building for the High Court. With this dual-zoo strategy, Telangana is positioning itself as a key destination for wildlife tourism, education, and conservation in India.
