An Iranian strike has reportedly damaged a cloud infrastructure facility linked to Amazon Web Services in Bahrain, raising concerns over the impact of geopolitical tensions on critical digital infrastructure.
According to reports, the strike targeted a site associated with Batelco, the country’s leading telecom provider that manages AWS systems in the region. Authorities confirmed a fire at a company facility following the attack, although they did not officially name Amazon.
The incident comes shortly after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards issued warnings targeting major US technology companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Meta, amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
While the full extent of the damage remains unclear, previous incidents have already disrupted AWS services in the region. Amazon had earlier indicated that it was working to migrate workloads to alternative locations to maintain service continuity.
As of now, there is no official confirmation on how severely services have been impacted or how long disruptions might last. Other global tech companies have not reported any damage to their infrastructure in the region so far.
The development highlights growing risks to cloud infrastructure in conflict zones, as geopolitical instability increasingly threatens data centers and digital services that underpin global business operations.
