Mahindra University has launched its Economic Policy Centre (EPC) to drive research, policy dialogue, and collaboration on key economic issues. The inaugural event, themed “Hyderabad: Powering India’s GCC Ecosystem,” was held in partnership with PwC.

Delivering the keynote, D. Sridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Industry & Commerce and Legislative Affairs, Government of Telangana emphasized Hyderabad’s rise as a leading hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), driven by strong infrastructure, progressive policies, and a skilled talent pool. He noted that continued investment in innovation, research, and industry collaboration will be critical to sustaining India’s global competitiveness.

The new centre aims to bridge academic research and public policy, supporting India’s economic growth through actionable insights. The event brought together senior policymakers, economists, industry leaders, and GCC executives that discussed Hyderabad’s growing role as India’s global capability centre capital.

Dr. Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor, Mahindra University, remarked on the institution’s vision, “The Economic Policy Centre will help drive meaningful conversations on issues that matter to India’s growth story, beginning with Hyderabad’s emergence as a leading GCC hub. We are creating an ecosystem where academic rigor meets real-world application by ensuring that our research contributes directly to the nation’s socio-economic blueprint.”

Experts at the event highlighted key factors behind Hyderabad’s GCC success, including its thriving IT ecosystem, global investment appeal, and supportive policy environment. The discussions also explored both macro trends, such as global economic shifts, and micro factors like talent development and city-level infrastructure.

Dr Nilanjan Banik, Head, Economic Policy Centre, said, “The launch of the Economic Policy Centre comes at an important time, as India deepens its role in global value chains and capability-led services. Our first event on GCCs brought together diverse perspectives to understand how policy, talent, and infrastructure can strengthen India’s competitiveness.”

With participation from policymakers, economists, and industry leaders, the launch positions Mahindra University as a key contributor to policy innovation and economic research, supporting Hyderabad’s growth as a global GCC hub and strengthening India’s role in the global economy.
