Microsoft Copilot AI Adopted by U.S. House of Representatives to Drive Digital Transformation in Government

The U.S. House of Representatives is officially embracing artificial intelligence by adopting Microsoft Copilot AI to modernize its operations and enhance digital productivity. The announcement, shared first with Axios, marks a major step in AI adoption in government institutions.

By integrating AI-powered productivity tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot, Congress aims to streamline workflows, improve document management, and bring AI innovation into the heart of policymaking. The move positions Microsoft as a key partner in the digital transformation of U.S. government operations.

House members and staff will gain access to Microsoft Copilot AI features, including a chatbot synced with Outlook emails, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams. Importantly, the system is being implemented with “heightened legal and data protections” to ensure cybersecurity and compliance in a highly sensitive environment.

  • The rollout began in June with technical staff testing.
  • Early adopters and leadership staff are next, with expansion through November.
  • Up to 6,000 licenses will be distributed for one year, marking one of the largest AI deployments in the U.S. government.

House Speaker Mike Johnson will unveil the AI-powered tool during the Congressional Hackathon, co-hosted with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The event focuses on how digital platforms, AI assistants, and cloud technology can be leveraged to transform the legislative process.

With this initiative, the U.S. House joins a growing list of organizations adopting generative AI, setting the stage for broader adoption across federal agencies. By using Microsoft Copilot AI, the House demonstrates a commitment to leveraging AI for governance, transparency, and efficiency
