Amazon Prime Video in India to Introduce Ads

To do away the ads and watch uninterruptedly, ready to pay extra ₹129 as Monthly Fee

Starting in June 2025, Amazon Prime Video subscribers in India will see advertisements while watching movies and TV shows—unless they pay an extra fee. To enjoy an ad-free experience, users will need to pay ₹129 per month or opt for a discounted ₹699 introductory offer along with their regular Prime membership.

This move follows a similar pricing and ad structure already introduced in countries like the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada. According to a report by TechCrunch, Amazon confirmed that this change is part of its global strategy to support content production costs while offering customers the choice to pay for uninterrupted viewing.

Many Indian users expressed disappointment after receiving emails from Amazon, informing them about the introduction of ads and the option to upgrade to the ad-free plan. Some users shared screenshots online, voicing frustration over what they feel is reduced value for the standard Prime subscription.

Currently, Amazon Prime Video already includes ads before certain content and requires additional payments for renting or buying new movie releases—even for paying subscribers. With this new model, subscribers will either need to tolerate ads or pay more to skip them, signaling a shift in how streaming services are monetizing content.

This change may affect how Indian consumers view streaming platforms, especially as competition increases and viewers become more price-sensitive. Whether users will pay extra or switch platforms remains to be seen.
