Rockstar Games’ critically acclaimed title Red Dead Redemption 2 may soon be galloping onto the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, alongside a long-awaited next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. According to a report by Gamereactor, sources close to Rockstar suggest the game could be released on the Switch 2 later in 2025, possibly in sync with or just before a performance-enhancing patch for the current-gen consoles.
Originally launched in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption 2 has remained locked to 30 frames per second on consoles, even on newer hardware like the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. It lacks a native app for these platforms, much to the frustration of fans who have been requesting an upgrade to fully harness the power of modern consoles. In contrast, the PC version, released in 2019, supports uncapped framerates and better graphics.
The next-gen patch, if released, is expected to improve both visual fidelity and performance, finally bringing the console version in line with the PC experience. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of several third-party titles reportedly planned for the new console. Publisher Take-Two has already confirmed four games for the Switch 2, though official names are still under wraps.
This potential dual release signals Rockstar’s effort to breathe new life into one of its biggest hits while embracing the next generation of gaming platforms.
