Mahindra University Partners with Hiroshima University for Global Academic Exchange

The first batch of students is expected to begin their final-year studies in Japan in 2026.

Mahindra University (MU), Hyderabad, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Hiroshima University (HU), paving the way for a wide-ranging academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed in Hiroshima by Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor of Mahindra University, and Dr Mitsuo Ochi, President of Hiroshima University, in the presence of senior academic leaders from both universities. The agreement aims to foster global academic excellence, promote research innovation, and facilitate cross-cultural learning through student and faculty exchanges.

A key highlight of the partnership is a 3+1 undergraduate engineering programme, allowing Mahindra University students to complete three years of study in Hyderabad and spend their final year at Hiroshima University. During their time in Japan, students will take advanced coursework and complete a thesis. Upon graduation, they will receive a certificate from Hiroshima University, and Mahindra University will confer the final degree, integrating credits earned abroad.

“This collaboration marks a milestone in our journey toward internationalizing education,” said Dr Yajulu Medury. “By enabling students to study at a globally renowned institution like Hiroshima University, we aim to enrich their academic and cultural experiences while preparing them for global careers.”

The MoU also includes provisions for joint research projects, faculty and staff exchanges, and the sharing of academic resources and publications. These initiatives are expected to promote innovation in strategic research areas and enhance both institutions’ global impact.

Dr Mitsuo Ochi, President of Hiroshima University, welcomed the partnership, stating, “This collaboration underscores our commitment to fostering global academic ties and addressing pressing global challenges through joint research and knowledge sharing.”

While tuition fees will apply, Hiroshima University will waive entrance and examination fees to support accessibility. A transparent and competitive selection process will ensure the best candidates are chosen for this transformative international experience.
