Canon Central & North Africa Hosted “Creator Lens” Event in Kenya

With immersive learning, hands-on innovation, and strong regional support, Canon’s Creator Lens event firmly positioned East Africa as a rising hub for professional content creation, digital storytelling, and visual innovation.

Canon Central & North Africa (CCNA) successfully hosted its first-ever Canon Creator Lens event on 19 November 2025 at the iconic Shamba Café in Nairobi, marking a major milestone in Canon’s mission to support and uplift East Africa’s fast-growing creator community. The initiative, designed as an immersive and collaborative experience, brought together emerging and established content creators across Kenya and the wider region for a day of learning, networking, and hands-on creative exploration.

The Creator Lens event began with an open call that invited photographers, videographers, podcasters, filmmakers, lifestyle influencers, and other creative professionals to participate. The platform showcased panel discussions, inspirational talks, hands-on product sessions, and live demonstrations — all aimed at helping creators elevate their skills using Canon’s advanced imaging and video technologies.

Creator Lens: Learn, Explore, Network, Synergize
The name “Creator Lens” reflected the event’s core values: Learn, Explore, Network, and Synergy. Participants learned directly from top industry professionals, explored Canon’s latest gear including cinema cameras and creator-focused video tools, networked with leading creators across Africa, and formed collaborations to strengthen storytelling across genres such as fashion, lifestyle, weddings, wildlife filmmaking, and podcasting.

The event formed a key part of Canon’s broader strategic initiative “ICE” (Innovation and Customer Experience) — reinforcing Canon’s commitment to empowering creators and positioning itself as not just a photography brand, but a leading video and cinema technology provider in Africa.

Immersive Creative Zones Showcased Canon’s Latest Technology
The Creator Lens event featured four immersive experience zones, each led by respected creators and industry experts, giving participants hands-on access to Canon’s newest video and imaging solutions:
Podcast Zone – Led by Dr. Ofweneke
This zone showcased Canon’s expanding portfolio of podcasting and streaming tools, including the EOS C80, R5 Mark II, C50, EOS R50V, and the Live Switcher App, helping podcasters explore professional-grade setups.

Fashion & Lifestyle Zone – Led by Joy Kendi
Creators tested compact content creation tools ideal for beauty, lifestyle, and influencer videos, including the PowerShot V10, EOS R50V, and vertical-shooting accessories optimized for social media workflows.

Wedding Zone – Led by Gabriel Kasha
Wedding videographers explored Canon’s high-performance cinema and hybrid cameras—such as the C50 and R5 Mark II—with features like 4K Dual Base ISO and advanced Log color profiles.

Cinematic Zone – Led by Hans Ngoteya
Filmmakers gained hands-on experience with Canon’s cinema lineup, including the EOS C50, C80, C400, and premium cinema lenses used in wildlife and documentary filmmaking.

Competitions, Keynotes, and Community Growth
Beyond the experience zones, Creator Lens featured panel discussions, keynote speeches, and live demos that helped creators understand real-world production environments. A content creation competition challenged participants to shoot and edit videos using Canon equipment, with winners earning exclusive Canon gear and mentorship opportunities.

According to Rashad Ghani, B2C Business Unit Director at Canon Central & North Africa, the event demonstrated Canon’s strong commitment to creativity and customer empowerment. He noted that the goal was not only to inspire creators but also to equip them with the tools, skills, and confidence needed to move beyond smartphone content and embrace professional video creation.

The launch in Kenya marked only the beginning of the Creator Lens experience. Canon confirmed plans to expand the initiative to Nigeria and Morocco, building a sustainable, continent-wide creator ecosystem. By collaborating with macro, micro, and nano influencers across Africa, Canon aimed to help creators upgrade their production quality and tap into new opportunities in the global digital economy.
