Lenovo Plans Multi-LLM Partnerships to Power AI Devices Globally, Says CFO at WEF 2026

Lenovo is planning to partner with multiple large language model (LLM) providers worldwide to power its devices, as the company positions itself as a major global player in artificial intelligence, according to Winston Cheng, Chief Financial Officer, Lenovo Group Limited.

At the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos, Cheng shared with media that Lenovo does not intend to depend on a single AI model provider. Instead, the company is adopting an AI-agnostic strategy, enabling its broad portfolio of products—ranging from personal computers to data centre servers—to support a variety of LLMs efficiently.

“We are the only company besides Apple with significant market share across both PCs and mobiles, and in the open Android and Windows ecosystems,” Cheng said.

Lenovo’s Multi-LLM Strategy
Unlike Apple, which currently partners primarily with OpenAI and Google’s Gemini, Lenovo aims to collaborate with multiple AI developers to provide greater flexibility to both enterprise and individual customers. This approach reflects the fragmented nature of the global AI ecosystem and the varying regulatory frameworks across regions.

Potential AI partners mentioned by Cheng include:

  • Humain in Saudi Arabia
  • Mistral AI in Europe
  • Alibaba and DeepSeek in China

Focus on AI Orchestration, Not Model Development
Cheng clarified that Lenovo does not plan to build its own proprietary LLM. Instead, the company is focusing its research and development efforts on optimising the integration of silicon, operating systems, and third-party AI models.

“We’re taking an orchestrator approach. We’re not doing our own LLM. We’re really doing a partnership because there are regulations around the world,” Cheng said.

Strategic Hedge Against Geopolitical and Regulatory Risks
By working with multiple AI providers, Lenovo aims to mitigate risks arising from geopolitical tensions and regional regulatory differences, while maintaining strong relationships with its existing technology partners.

This multi-model strategy strengthens Lenovo’s ambition to deliver AI-powered devices that are adaptable, compliant, and globally competitive, reinforcing its long-term vision in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
