BharatGen to Launch 17B Multilingual AI Model Param2 at India AI Impact Summit 2026

high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure

BharatGen, a government-backed consortium building sovereign artificial intelligence systems, will unveil its 17-billion-parameter multilingual foundation model, Param2 17B, at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

Designed to support 22 Indian languages, Param2 17B is a next-generation Mixture of Experts (MoE) large language model (LLM) built from the ground up and trained extensively on curated Indian datasets. The launch marks a significant milestone in India’s push for sovereign AI, language inclusion, and digital self-reliance under the national “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.

India-First Multilingual Foundation Model
According to BharatGen, Param2 17B is engineered for:

  • Multilingual natural language processing (NLP)
  • Advanced reasoning and mathematical problem-solving
  • Code generation and enterprise AI applications
  • Context-aware responses aligned with Indian socio-economic data

“The launch of Param2 17B is more than a technical milestone; it is the cornerstone of a mission to build India-first AI supporting 22 Indian languages and trained extensively on Indian data,” the consortium said.

Real-World AI Deployment Across Sectors
The model is designed for enterprise, governance, education, healthcare, agriculture, and citizen services, with live demonstrations planned in collaboration with public and private sector partners at the summit.

Rishi Bal, CEO of BharatGen, emphasized the importance of linguistic accessibility and deployment readiness. He said, “India’s AI progress must be built on language access and contextual understanding. BharatGen is developing AI systems that work naturally across Indian languages and sectors. These models are designed for real deployment across citizen services, finance, healthcare, and education, while strengthening India’s sovereign AI capability.”

He added that the summit will enable fast go-to-market pathways, along with open access for developers, startups, researchers, and enterprises building AI solutions for India and global markets.

Powered by IndiaAI Mission and Bharat Data Sagar
BharatGen operates under the government-supported IndiaAI Mission, leveraging state-backed high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure to train large-scale AI systems.

At the summit, the consortium will showcase:

  • Sovereign multilingual AI systems spanning text, speech, and vision AI
  • Advanced MoE architectures for scalable AI efficiency
  • “Bharat Data Sagar,” a research-driven data repository built from curated public and private datasets

With Param2 17B, BharatGen aims to position India as a leader in multilingual generative AI, sovereign LLM development, and AI innovation tailored to emerging markets.
