Amazon Cuts 100 Jobs in Devices and Services Team to Boost Efficiency

Amazon has laid off about 100 employees from its Devices and Services team as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce costs and improve efficiency. This division manages popular Amazon products like Echo smart speakers, Fire TV, and Ring security systems.

The company explained that these job cuts are part of a regular review of its business and are meant to better align teams with its future product plans. Although only a small portion of the team was affected, the layoffs are spread across several groups, suggesting a broader restructuring rather than an issue with any one product.

This move follows previous job reductions, including cuts in the Alexa team in 2023. Amazon, like other big tech companies, is adjusting to a tougher economic climate by cutting spending and streamlining operations.

CEO Andy Jassy has made it clear that Amazon should focus on doing more with fewer resources. Instead of growing through large teams and layers of management, he wants Amazon to work more like a startup—fast-moving and flexible. To support this, the company has merged some teams and shifted some managers into more hands-on roles, increasing the number of workers doing core tasks by 15%.

“As part of our ongoing work to make our teams and programs operate more efficiently, and to better align with our product roadmap, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles. We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we’re committed to supporting affected employees through their transitions,” Amazon spokesperson Kristy Schmidt said in a statement.

Amazon also launched a “No Bureaucracy” feedback program, allowing employees to suggest ways to reduce internal red tape. Over 1,000 emails have led to 375 improvements. Though the number of layoffs is relatively small, it reflects Amazon’s larger plan to create a more efficient, less bureaucratic company culture focused on performance and innovation.
