Amazon Unveils Kindle Scribe Colorsoft with Color E-Ink Display and Enhanced Performance

Scribe Colorsoft

With the introduction of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, Amazon is signaling a stronger commitment to premium e-ink tablets, combining color displays, pen input, and performance upgrades to compete more directly in the evolving digital reading and note-taking market.

Amazon has officially introduced the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, bringing color e-ink technology to its largest e-reader and marking a major milestone in the evolution of the Kindle lineup. While competitors have adopted color e-ink more aggressively, Amazon has taken a measured approach—making the new Colorsoft model only the second Kindle device to feature a color display, following last year’s Kindle Colorsoft.

The announcement coincides with Amazon’s third hardware refresh of the Kindle Scribe in four years, underscoring the company’s increasing focus on its large-screen e-ink tablet category rather than standard Kindle e-readers.

New Kindle Scribe Lineup: Colorsoft and Entry-Level Models
Alongside the Colorsoft, Amazon is expanding the Scribe range with multiple configurations. The standard Kindle Scribe remains available, while a lower-end Scribe model—featuring reduced storage and no front light—is scheduled to launch next year.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft features an 11-inch color e-ink display, designed for reading, annotating, note-taking, and visual content such as diagrams, highlights, and color-coded notes. This positions the device as a hybrid between a traditional e-reader and a digital notebook.

Pricing and Availability
Both the Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft are available to order starting today:
Kindle Scribe: $500
Kindle Scribe Colorsoft: $630
Each model includes, Premium Pen accessory, 32GB internal storage, with a 64GB option available for an additional $50.

Amazon also confirmed that a more affordable Scribe variant will arrive next year, priced at $430, featuring 16GB of storage and no front light. While these prices are significantly higher than the original Kindle Scribe’s $340 launch price, Amazon points to inflation, tariffs, and ongoing supply chain pressures as key contributors to rising hardware costs across the tech industry.

Hardware and Display Improvements
Both the Kindle Scribe and Scribe Colorsoft benefit from a series of hardware and display upgrades. Amazon has redesigned the front lighting system, using miniaturized LEDs placed closer to the display, resulting in a narrower bezel and more uniform illumination.

  • Enhanced paper-like texture on the glass display
  • Reduced gap between the glass and the e-ink panel for a more natural writing experience
  • Upgraded quad-core processor
  • Increased RAM, delivering faster performance and smoother navigation

These improvements are aimed at making the Scribe feel more responsive and closer to writing on real paper—an important factor for users who rely on the device for digital note-taking, document markup, and productivity tasks.
