Apple Set to Upgrade Siri With ChatGPT-Like Generative AI in 2026

iPhone

Apple is reportedly preparing a major artificial intelligence overhaul of Siri, aiming to transform its voice assistant into a ChatGPT-style conversational AI as the company looks to close the gap in the global AI race.

Apple’s Next-Gen Siri to Get Generative AI Capabilities
According to media reports, Apple plans to introduce a significantly revamped version of Siri powered by generative AI, enabling chatbot-like interactions through both voice and text commands. The upgrade is expected to be previewed at WWDC 2026 in June, with a broader rollout planned later.

Internally codenamed “Campos,” the new Siri is designed to deliver more natural conversations and advanced task execution across Apple’s ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other Apple devices. The move could position Apple as a stronger competitor to OpenAI, Google, and other AI-first platforms.

Smarter Tasks, Deeper App Integration
With the AI upgrade, Siri is expected to handle complex, multi-step tasks, such as:

  • Searching and summarizing information from the web
  • Generating and editing content
  • Creating and modifying images
  • Summarizing emails, documents, and media
  • Understanding contextual and follow-up queries

The enhanced assistant is also likely to be deeply integrated into core Apple apps including Mail, Photos, Music, Podcasts, and Messages, enabling more seamless automation and productivity.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted that users will access the new Siri the same way they do today—via voice commands or by holding the side button on Apple devices. He added that users may be able to ask Siri to find photos based on descriptions and apply edits such as cropping or color adjustments using natural language.

Apple AI Strategy and Gemini Partnership
Apple has already announced a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini AI, which is expected to enhance Siri’s capabilities in the near term. This integration is likely to arrive with iOS 26.4, while the fully redesigned, chatbot-style Siri is expected to debut with the next-generation iOS release, currently anticipated in September 2026.

If Apple delivers the conversational Siri as reported, it would mark the company’s most significant AI leap to date, helping it catch up with competitors that have already launched advanced generative AI assistants.

However, Apple has not officially confirmed the details of the chatbot-like Siri. More clarity is expected at WWDC 2026, where Apple is likely to outline its broader AI roadmap and long-term strategy.
