Samsung has officially confirmed that its first tri-fold smartphone and the Project Moohan XR mixed reality headset will debut by the end of 2025, reinforcing the company’s leadership in foldable and extended reality (XR) technologies. The announcement came during Samsung’s Q2 2025 earnings call, highlighting its strategy to push innovative form factors and immersive experiences.
Trifold: A New Era for Foldable Phones
The tri-fold smartphone, expected to be branded as the Galaxy Z Trifold, could launch as early as October 2025. Featuring a Z-shaped triple-folding display, the device will offer three panels with an external cover screen, enabling a compact design when folded. Reports suggest a titanium frame, triple-camera system, and a custom Snapdragon processor optimized for Galaxy performance.
Samsung’s tri-fold phone aims to compete with Huawei’s Mate XT while cementing its dominance in the foldable phone market. Leaks from One UI 8 beta builds and earlier CES 2022 prototypes indicate improved hinge mechanisms for a flatter fold and durability.
Project Moohan: Samsung’s Mixed Reality Push
The Project Moohan XR headset will run Google’s Android XR OS, powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chipset. It is expected to feature Sony OLEDoS 4K displays with 3,800ppi, full-colour pass-through video, and AI-powered controls via Google Gemini. Competing directly with Apple Vision Pro, it will support Google Play apps, XR-native experiences, and gesture-based interaction.
Alongside its tri-fold smartphone and XR headset, Samsung is also preparing the Galaxy S25 FE and Tab S11 series. With multiple flagship releases, industry insiders expect another Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event showcasing foldables, XR devices, and AI-powered innovations.
