WhatsApp for Apple Watch: New Companion App to Let Users Read Chats, Reply with Emojis, and Send Voice Messages

Meta is reportedly testing a WhatsApp companion app for Apple Watch with full chat support, emoji reactions, and seamless iPhone integration.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new companion app for Apple Watch, designed to give users more control over their messages directly from their wrist. The feature will allow Apple Watch users to read chats, reply with emojis or voice messages, and view shared media, all while staying synced with their iPhone. According to media reports, this WhatsApp for Apple Watch app will function as an extension of the iPhone version — marking a significant upgrade from the current notification-only setup.

WhatsApp Expands to Apple Watch with Companion App Support
The new WhatsApp companion app for Apple Watch builds upon the company’s earlier success with its Wear OS version for Android smartwatches. That app already lets users read and reply to messages, listen to voice notes, send reactions, and even manage calls — functionality that Apple Watch users have long awaited.

Currently, Apple Watch owners can only receive WhatsApp notifications and send quick replies through iOS. The upcoming update changes that — introducing a dedicated chat interface similar to Wear OS, giving users access to their message lists, contacts, and media without unlocking their phone.

The upcoming WhatsApp Apple Watch app is expected to include several interactive features that make it more than a simple notification tool:

  • Read and reply to full chats directly from your wrist
  • View media attachments, including photos, stickers, and emojis
  • React to messages with quick emoji responses
  • Send voice messages or dictate text replies using Siri
  • Compose new messages without needing a prior notification
  • Support for pinned and disappearing chats, similar to iPhone and Android versions

Once installed, the app will automatically sync with your iPhone WhatsApp account, with no need for QR code scanning. An on-screen indicator will show connection status — “syncing,” “connected,” or “disconnected.”

Seamless Integration Between iPhone and Apple Watch
The WhatsApp for Apple Watch companion app will rely on the same account as the user’s iPhone app, ensuring real-time syncing for messages and notifications.

Unlike third-party tools or notification mirroring, this new companion system gives native integration, letting users access conversations, reply instantly, and manage chats directly through the Apple Watch interface. The app’s design mirrors WhatsApp’s signature look — chat bubbles, pinned messages, and contact icons — making it instantly familiar to users.
