Google is reportedly preparing to roll out a redesigned Reading mode for Google Chrome on Android, making it easier for users to read articles without distractions. According to media reports, the updated Reading mode introduces Material 3 Expressive design elements and a more accessible, cleaner layout while keeping the core functionality intact.

Reading mode in Chrome is designed to improve the reading experience on mobile devices by stripping away ads, pop-ups, and cluttered page elements, allowing users to focus on the main content. With the upcoming redesign, Google aims to make this feature more intuitive and visually consistent with Android’s latest design language.

What’s New in Chrome’s Redesigned Reading Mode
As per the report, the refreshed Reading mode opens in a new layout that no longer takes over the entire screen. Unlike the older version, the updated design keeps the Omnibox (address bar) visible at the top, making navigation easier while reading. At the bottom of the screen, users will see a dedicated “Reading mode” sheet, styled with Material 3 Expressive components such as updated containers, softer shapes, and a more modern UI.

While the visual presentation and access method have been refined, the reading controls and core features remain the same, ensuring users can still adjust text size, font style, and background for comfortable reading. The changes are focused on usability, accessibility, and a more polished Android-native experience.

The redesigned Reading mode reflects Google’s broader push to modernize Chrome for Android with cleaner interfaces and improved user-centric features. Once widely released, the update is expected to benefit users who frequently read long-form content on their smartphones, making Chrome a stronger choice for distraction-free reading, accessibility, and mobile productivity.
