Veteran technology executive to spearhead Anthropic’s India expansion, enterprise partnerships, and AI research engagement as company opens Bengaluru office.
Anthropic, the US-based artificial intelligence company behind the Claude large language models, has appointed Irina Ghose, former Managing Director of Microsoft India, as its new Managing Director for India. The appointment comes as Anthropic prepares to open its first India office in Bengaluru and scale operations in one of its fastest-growing global markets.
Ghose brings nearly three decades of experience in the technology industry. Most recently, she led Microsoft India’s enterprise business, driving large-scale adoption of artificial intelligence, cloud, and digital transformation across sectors such as banking, healthcare, manufacturing, and government.
In her new role, Ghose will be responsible for building Anthropic’s local leadership team, expanding enterprise and government partnerships, and strengthening developer, academic, and research engagement across India. She will also play a key role in shaping Anthropic’s long-term strategy in the country.
“India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale. Organizations here are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety, and long-term societal impact are just as important as innovation,” Ghose said in a statement.
Anthropic, which is backed by Amazon and Google, is a major player in the generative AI market, competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. The company has been steadily expanding its international footprint as demand for enterprise-grade AI models accelerates globally.
India has emerged as a key market for the company. According to Anthropic, India is now its second-largest global market for Claude.ai. The company’s latest Economic Index report revealed that nearly half of all Claude usage in India is focused on computer science and mathematics-related tasks, highlighting the country’s strong developer ecosystem and growing demand for technical AI applications.
Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, said Ghose’s experience in scaling technology businesses and driving enterprise adoption made her ideally suited to lead the company’s India operations.
“As we expand our teams and deepen engagement across India’s public and private sectors, Irina will ensure our approach is grounded in local insight while staying aligned with Anthropic’s mission around responsible AI,” Ciauri said.
Anthropic added that its India team will work closely with policymakers, academic institutions, and enterprises, supporting organizations that use AI to address local challenges, including solutions tailored to India’s diverse languages and communities.
