Snapchat Launches Arrival Notifications on Snap Map

Snapchat

Snapchat expands Snap Map safety tools with Arrival Notifications, enabling automatic alerts when users reach key destinations.

Snapchat has rolled out a new safety-focused feature called Arrival Notifications, expanding its existing Home Safe functionality on Snap Map. The update allows users to automatically notify selected friends or family members when they arrive at destinations such as classes, meetings, hotels, travel stops, or regular activity locations, reducing the need to manually send “I’ve arrived” messages.

Announced via Snapchat’s official blog, the feature is designed to make location sharing more flexible, automated, and privacy-centric, especially for everyday routines and travel scenarios.

What Are Snapchat Arrival Notifications?
Previously, Snapchat’s Home Safe feature allowed users to alert someone when they reached home safely. With Arrival Notifications, Snapchat extends this concept beyond home, letting users set alerts for multiple custom locations.

Users can choose whether an alert is:

  • One-time (for a single trip or visit), or
  • Recurring (for regular locations like a weekly class or office)
  • Once enabled, Snapchat automatically sends a notification to the chosen contact when the user arrives at the selected destination.

According to Snapchat, the feature is ideal for routine moments such as:

  • Reaching a hotel while travelling
  • Arriving at a recurring class or gym session
  • Getting to a regular meeting spot
  • Reaching a friend’s place or event location

The aim is to make safety check-ins automatic, seamless, and stress-free.

Privacy and Safety Controls Remain Central
Snapchat has underscored that privacy is central to the design of Arrival Notifications, with multiple safeguards built into the feature. Alerts can only be sent to contacts with whom a user has explicitly chosen to share their location, and Snap Map location sharing remains switched off by default. Users must manually enable location sharing in order to use Arrival Notifications, ensuring full control over who can see their whereabouts. In addition, one-time alerts are designed to expire automatically—either immediately after they are delivered or after 24 hours if the destination is not reached—further limiting unnecessary or prolonged location sharing.

Follow these steps to enable Arrival Notifications:

  • Share your location with a friend on Snap Map
  • Open the friendship profile of that contact
  • Scroll to “Arrival Notifications”
  • Select a location on the map and give it a custom name (e.g., “Run Club,” “Piano Class,” or “Office”)
  • Choose whether the alert should be one-time or recurring
  • Once set, Snapchat will automatically notify the selected contact when you arrive.

A Smarter Addition to Snap Map Safety Tools
With Arrival Notifications, Snapchat continues to strengthen its digital safety and location-sharing features, offering users a convenient way to stay connected without constant manual updates. The feature is especially useful for students, travellers, professionals, and families, making everyday movements safer and more transparent—on the user’s terms.
