Expands Partnerships Across India, as it emerges as the Second-Largest Market for Claude AI Platform.
US-based artificial intelligence company Anthropic has opened its first India office in Bengaluru, marking a significant step in its expansion across one of its fastest-growing global markets. The new facility is Anthropic’s second Asian office after Tokyo and will recruit across technical, research, and business roles.
The company announced that India is now the second-largest market globally for its Claude AI platform. Nearly half of Claude’s usage in India is focused on computer science and mathematical applications, including building software applications, upgrading legacy systems, and deploying production-grade solutions.
India as a Strategic AI Growth Market
Irina Ghose, Managing Director for India at Anthropic, stated that India represents a major opportunity to expand responsible AI adoption at scale, citing the country’s strong technical talent base and robust digital public infrastructure.
Anthropic reported that its India run-rate revenue has doubled since announcing its expansion in October 2025, driven by accelerating enterprise adoption across sectors including aviation, fintech, IT services, and startups.
Several major Indian and global enterprises are integrating Claude into their operations:
- Air India is using Claude Code to accelerate custom software development and reduce operational costs.
- CRED has reported faster feature delivery cycles and improved test coverage.
- Cognizant is deploying Claude to 350,000 employees globally to modernize legacy IT systems.
- Razorpay has embedded AI into risk management and operational workflows.
- Enterpret is integrating Claude across its engineering and product stack.
Emergent scaled to $25 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and two million users within five months using Claude-powered development tools.
Strengthening AI in Indian Languages
Recognizing India’s linguistic diversity, Anthropic has launched a company-wide initiative to enhance AI capabilities in 10 widely spoken Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and Urdu. The effort focuses on building high-quality, locally representative datasets to narrow the performance gap between English and vernacular languages.
To evaluate real-world performance, Anthropic is collaborating with Karya and Collective Intelligence Project, alongside domain experts from nonprofits such as Digital Green and Adalat AI. The company plans to publish the evaluation findings publicly.
Education and Social Impact Initiatives
Education-related use cases account for approximately 12% of Claude’s activity in India. Anthropic has partnered with Pratham as its first strategic AI lab partner. Pratham’s AI-enabled “Anytime Testing Machine” is currently being piloted with 1,500 students across 20 schools and is expected to expand to 100 schools by 2026, including programs supporting women re-entering education.
Additionally, Anthropic is collaborating with Central Square Foundation to help build AI tools aimed at underserved learners.
Agriculture and Legal Sector Applications
Through a partnership with EkStep Foundation, Anthropic is exploring agricultural AI applications via the OpenAgriNet initiative, aiming to extend expert farming knowledge to rural communities.
In the legal sector, support for Adalat AI includes plans for a national WhatsApp-based helpline that will provide case updates, translation services, document summaries, and access to legal information in Indian languages.
The Bengaluru office underscores Anthropic’s long-term strategy to scale AI adoption across Indian enterprises, public services, and social-impact sectors. The company emphasized its focus on safety, localization, inclusive access, and responsible AI deployment as core pillars of its India expansion strategy.
With strong enterprise traction, growing language capabilities, and multi-sector partnerships, Anthropic is positioning India as a central hub in its global AI growth roadmap.
