Dell has officially revived its iconic XPS laptop lineup at CES 2026, reaffirming XPS as the centerpiece of its premium consumer and professional laptop portfolio. With the launch of the newly redesigned XPS 14 and XPS 16, Dell is signaling a renewed focus on lightweight design, performance efficiency, long battery life, and refined craftsmanship—key differentiators in today’s competitive premium laptop market.
After a period of relative quiet, XPS is back at the forefront of Dell’s innovation strategy. The company confirmed that 2026 marks the start of a new chapter for its most recognizable high-end laptops, with additional XPS models planned later this year.
Redesigned from the Ground Up for Performance and Portability
The new Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 laptops have been completely reengineered with slimmer profiles, lighter chassis, and improved ergonomics. Targeted at creators, professionals, developers, and power users, the refreshed XPS models aim to deliver desktop-class performance in a highly portable form factor.
Both laptops feature a unibody CNC-machined aluminium design, reinforced with Gorilla Glass and integrated structural sidewalls for enhanced rigidity and durability. For the first time, Dell has added the XPS logo to the front lid, responding directly to long-standing user feedback. Dell has also refined the user interface experience, bringing back a traditional function key row, improving key travel for more accurate typing, and adding subtle etching around the seamless glass touchpad to enhance usability without compromising the minimalist aesthetic.
Sustainability and Repairability Take Center Stage
Sustainability is a major focus in this generation of XPS laptops. Dell has introduced modular USB-C ports, easily removable keyboards, and greater use of recycled materials throughout the chassis and battery components. The new XPS 14 and XPS 16 comply with the latest EPEAT 2.0 sustainability standards, reinforcing Dell’s commitment to environmentally responsible PC design.
Intel Core Ultra Series 3 and AI-Accelerated Performance
Powering the new XPS laptops are Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, paired with integrated Intel Arc graphics featuring 12 Xe cores. Dell claims up to 57 percent faster AI performance on the XPS 14 and 78 percent faster AI workloads on the XPS 16, along with more than 50 percent faster graphics performance compared to the previous generation.
To support these gains, Dell has redesigned the thermal architecture, introducing its thinnest and largest cooling fans to date. The new thermal system improves airflow while keeping noise and surface temperatures low, contributing to both sustained performance and improved battery efficiency.
Industry-Leading Battery Life and Lightweight Design
Portability is one of the standout improvements in the 2026 XPS lineup. Measuring just 14.6mm thick, the XPS 14 weighs approximately three pounds, making it over half a pound lighter than its predecessor. The XPS 16 weighs just 3.6 pounds, nearly a full pound lighter than earlier models. Dell also notes that the XPS 14 has a smaller footprint than the MacBook Air 13, while offering a larger display area.
Both laptops are available with OLED or 2K LCD InfinityEdge displays. Dell is bringing its tandem OLED technology, first introduced in 2024, to both models, promising higher brightness, improved energy efficiency, longer panel lifespan, and more stable color accuracy.
Users focused on maximum battery life can opt for the 2K LCD display, which Dell claims can deliver up to 27 hours of typical use or more than 40 hours of local video playback in select configurations. Smart power management, including adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz, plays a critical role in extending battery endurance.
Expanding XPS Portfolio and Availability
Dell confirmed that the XPS lineup will expand later in 2026, introducing new models across a wider range of price points and form factors. The first addition will be a redesigned XPS 13, expected to be Dell’s thinnest and lightest XPS laptop ever, measuring under 13mm thick and serving as the most accessible entry point into the XPS ecosystem.
The Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 will be available in limited configurations in the United States and Canada starting January 6. Pricing starts at $1,649.99 for the XPS 14 and $1,849.99 for the XPS 16. Additional configurations, including a new entry-level option, are expected to arrive in February. Both models will initially ship in Graphite, with a Shimmer color option launching later in the year. Dell also confirmed plans for an Ubuntu 24.04 edition of the XPS 14, targeting developers and Linux users.
