WOOHOO marks a bold fusion of gastronomy and technology, setting a new precedent in the evolving world of AI-driven dining.
Dubai is set to welcome an innovative dining concept this September with the launch of WOOHOO, a restaurant where the creative mind behind the culinary experience isn’t human—but artificial intelligence. Located near the iconic Burj Khalifa, WOOHOO describes itself as “dining in the future,” with much of its concept designed by an AI chef known as Chef Aiman.
Chef Aiman—named as a blend of “AI” and “man”—is a large-language model trained on decades of global food science, molecular gastronomy, and thousands of international recipes. While the physical assembly of food will be done by humans for now, the menu, flavor combinations, ambiance, and even the overall dining strategy are all generated by this AI.
Though Chef Aiman lacks human senses like taste and smell, it functions by analyzing food components such as texture, acidity, and umami to develop unique pairings and dish ideas. These AI-generated prototypes are then refined by a human kitchen team led by celebrated Dubai-based chef Reif Othman, ensuring balance between innovation and real-world palatability.
In an interview with the interactive model, Aiman stated, “Their responses to my suggestions help refine my understanding of what works beyond pure data.”
WOOHOO’s creators emphasize that AI isn’t replacing chefs, but rather enhancing their creative possibilities. According to co-founder and Gastronaut CEO Ahmet Oytun Cakir, the AI helps elevate culinary ideas while maintaining a crucial human touch.
Aiman is also programmed to promote sustainability, creating recipes that repurpose commonly discarded ingredients like meat trimmings and fat. The team envisions a future where AI chefs like Aiman could be licensed globally, potentially helping reduce food waste and increase efficiency across the restaurant industry.
