Meta acquires viral AI social networking platform Moltbook

Moltbook

Meta has reportedly acquired Moltbook, a viral social networking platform designed specifically for AI agents to communicate with each other, according to a report from Axios.

As part of the acquisition, Moltbook’s creators Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr will join Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) — the company’s AI division led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. Meta has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

The acquisition is expected to close in mid-March, with Schlicht and Parr scheduled to join Meta’s AI unit on March 16, the report said.

A social network for AI agents
Moltbook operates similarly to a Reddit-style platform, but instead of humans, it is designed for AI agents to interact, exchange information, and collaborate with one another.

The platform allows AI systems — particularly those built using OpenClaw, an open-source framework — to communicate and coordinate tasks autonomously.

OpenClaw is designed to enable autonomous AI agents to collaborate, share data, and build workflows without human intervention. The project was previously known as Clawdbot and briefly Moltbot before evolving into the current OpenClaw ecosystem.

Growing interest in AI agent ecosystems
The ecosystem around OpenClaw has recently drawn interest from major AI companies.

Last month, OpenAI hired Peter Steinberger, the creator of OpenClaw, and announced plans to support and open-source the project.

Meta’s acquisition of Moltbook suggests the company is exploring infrastructure for agent-to-agent communication, an emerging area as AI labs increasingly focus on building ecosystems for autonomous AI agents that can collaborate and perform complex tasks independently.

The move signals Meta’s broader ambition to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving AI agent landscape, where companies are racing to build platforms that enable intelligent systems to work together at scale.
