Google CEO Sundar Pichai is urging employees to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) tools faster to boost productivity, as the tech giant navigates a high-investment phase with tighter resource management. Speaking at a company-wide meeting, Pichai emphasized that Google must “accomplish more” by leveraging AI-driven workflows rather than relying on expanding headcount.

Pichai explained that Alphabet’s capital expenditure for 2025 is now projected to hit $85 billion, largely to support AI infrastructure and deployment, up from $75 billion. He highlighted that this AI-focused transition requires frugality and efficiency, telling employees, “In this AI moment, we have to accomplish more by taking advantage of this transition to drive higher productivity.”

Brian Saluzzo, VP of Core Technical Infrastructure, reinforced the urgency of embedding AI into daily work, especially for software engineers. He stated that AI-powered coding workflows can increase development velocity and address top engineering needs.

To accelerate this AI adoption, Google is expanding internal tools and training initiatives, including:

  • Cider, an AI-powered coding assistant, now used weekly by 50% of eligible employees
  • AI Savvy Google, a program offering courses, toolkits, and workshops for AI fluency
  • Building with Gemini, a DeepMind-developed AI training program launching soon

By integrating AI into core operations, Google aims to enhance productivity, streamline coding processes, and maximize returns on its record AI investments. This AI workplace transformation reflects Alphabet’s strategy to maintain global leadership in artificial intelligence while managing resources efficiently.
