Qualcomm Incorporated has announced the successful acquisition of Augentix, a leading provider of low-power image signal processors (ISP) and multimedia chipsets, strengthening its position in Edge AI, smart surveillance, and advanced camera technology. The deal—revealed on December 9 in New Delhi—marks a significant step toward expanding the hardware ecosystem supporting the Qualcomm Insight Platform, which powers next-generation AI-enabled cameras and intelligent infrastructure solutions across sectors.
Founded in 2014, Augentix specializes in high-resolution, energy-efficient video processing technologies designed for AI-powered surveillance, IoT devices, smart cities, and industrial automation. Integrating Augentix’s chipset innovations into the Qualcomm Insight Platform will enable Qualcomm Technologies to offer a broader portfolio of AI-ready smart camera solutions, ranging from cost-effective IP cameras for low-risk environments to high-performance analytics cameras for mission-critical security deployments—all without requiring changes to the software layer.
Sunita Verma, Group Coordinator at the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), welcomed the acquisition, emphasizing India’s need for “secure, scalable, and trusted IP camera platforms” amid the country’s digital transformation. She noted that Qualcomm’s expanded ecosystem offers a strong and reliable alternative in the global supply chain while supporting Indian manufacturers and technology partners.
Savi Soin, Senior Vice President & President of Qualcomm India, reinforced the company’s long-term commitment to India, stating that the future of intelligent infrastructure requires systems that operate “securely, autonomously, and at scale” in alignment with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. He highlighted that the integration boosts Qualcomm’s ability to deliver real-time Edge AI intelligence, lower power consumption, and enhanced data privacy.
Hung-Chi Fan, CEO of Augentix, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that the acquisition will accelerate product innovation and expand Augentix’s footprint in India. Local industry partners, including CP Plus, have also praised the move, pointing out that Qualcomm’s strengthened camera ecosystem will enable AI processing directly on the camera, reducing cloud costs and improving efficiency.
This unified hardware-software approach helps solution providers, system integrators, and manufacturers streamline deployments, reduce operational complexity, and lower total cost of ownership. The move also supports India’s growing demand for secure, scalable, and trusted AI surveillance systems, especially as public infrastructure, enterprise campuses, transportation hubs, and smart city projects continue rapid digitisation.
