Swiggy Puts its Genie on Hold

Swiggy

Swiggy has quietly suspended its popular pickup-and-drop service, Swiggy Genie, across major cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi NCR. The service, which once operated in nearly 70 cities, now shows as “temporarily unavailable” on the app in most regions. Swiggy has not provided an official timeline for its return, citing only “operational constraints” as the reason.

This move comes as Swiggy ramps up its 10-minute food delivery service, Bolt, which is expanding to over 500 cities. Bolt specializes in ready-to-eat meals with minimal prep time, delivered within a 2-kilometer radius to ensure speed and efficiency.

Swiggy’s decision also follows similar steps by rival Zomato, which recently discontinued its quick delivery services, Everyday and Quick.

Genie, launched in April 2020, had become a reliable last-mile delivery solution for sending or receiving items within a city. The current pause mirrors a similar halt in 2022 when high demand for Swiggy’s core food and Instamart services led to temporary suspension.

As Swiggy prepares to release its Q4 results on May 9, industry watchers are curious whether the company’s shift in priorities will reflect in its financial recovery—especially after posting a ₹799 crore loss in Q3 FY25.
