Cloudflare Outage Disrupts Major Websites Again

Cloudflare

Cloudflare experienced another brief outage on Friday, causing widespread disruptions across several major online platforms. Known for powering and protecting millions of websites globally, Cloudflare describes its network as an “immune system for the internet,” offering services such as DDoS protection, web application firewalls (WAF), data centres, and website performance optimisation across more than 125 countries.

During the latest outage, users reported issues accessing popular platforms including Zerodha, Groww, Canva, and Downdetector, highlighting the massive dependency of modern businesses on Cloudflare’s network. The downtime sparked immediate concern across social media, with many users assuming a large-scale cyberattack or DNS failure. However, Cloudflare quickly clarified that the disruption was not the result of a cyberattack, but rather caused by a technical change made to its Web Application Firewall (WAF), which temporarily affected traffic flow across its servers.

Cloudflare services play a critical role in keeping the internet stable by safeguarding websites from malicious attacks, data breaches, and high-volume traffic spikes, while also enhancing speed, security, and reliability. Even a short-lived outage can have ripple effects across the global digital ecosystem, impacting stock trading apps, SaaS tools, e-commerce platforms, and online communication systems.

As Cloudflare works to optimise its infrastructure and prevent future disruptions, the incident underscores the importance of robust cloud security, redundancy planning, and reliable content delivery networks (CDNs) for companies operating at scale.
